Social studies involve a curriculum developed and implemented in the concentrations of history, geography, economics, state history, and current events. Communities, geography, and economics are emphasized in the early primary grades. South Carolina history, colonization and a general introduction to US History are covered in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. World, the United States, and South Carolina histories are taught more in-depth in middle school. Geography and current events are also an emphasis of the middle school curriculum.
